Card rule presets let you apply the same set of rules, such as spending limits, Merchant categories, and geo controls, to multiple cards at once. Instead of editing each card individually, you can create, assign, and update rules in bulk to save time and stay consistent across your cards.
Why use card rule presets
Presets simplify card management and reduce errors by ensuring all cards follow the same rules and limits. They’re especially useful for larger teams or when setting up multiple cards with similar purposes. For example, you can:
- Apply a consistent set of limits and controls across all employee cards in one action.
- Update or replace existing rules on several cards at once, ideal when company policies change.
- Save time during onboarding by assigning a preset to every new card you create.
Each card rule preset can include:
- Security rules - e.g. ATM withdrawals, contactless payments, online payments
- Spending limits - daily, weekly, monthly, or per-transaction
- Merchant categories - define where cards can be used
- Geo controls - restrict spending by country
Which cards can use presets
Presets can be assigned to:
- User cards
- Company cards
They can’t be assigned to:
- Temporary virtual cards (pre-approved spend)
- Subscription cards
- Online advertising cards

- Click Create preset.
- Select the card rules you want to include, such as security settings or spending limits, then select Next.
- Select the Merchant categories you want to enable and select Next. You can skip this step if you’re happy with your account’s default configuration.
- Select the countries where the cards can be used, then select Next. You can also skip this step if you’re using the account default settings.
- Assign the preset to one or more cards. You can do this now or skip this step and assign it later.
- Add a name and description for easy identification.
- Review your configuration and click Confirm.
Your new preset will appear in the Bulk card rules section. You can now assign this preset to your cards. You can do this from the Bulk card rules section by selecting your preset from the list and then selecting the Cards tab. From here, you'll be able to manage the cards that this preset will be applied to. Alternatively, if you need to assign the preset ad-hoc to individual cards, you can do this from the Cards section. Just select the card you want to manage, navigate to the Rules tab and you'll be able to select and assign a preset from here.
