We’ve made it easier to manage receipts with more than one VAT rate. If you’re using our OCR feature, we can now detect and suggest transaction splits based on VAT data extracted from uploaded receipts.
Why this matters
Previously, our OCR engine could only identify and apply a single VAT rate per transaction. Receipts often contain a mix of VAT rates, and manually splitting transactions slowed teams down. Now, you can save time and increase accuracy with automated VAT splits.
What’s new?
- Automatic transaction split: Our OCR engine detects multiple VAT rates in your receipt and splits the transaction into separate lines accordingly.
- Pre-filled accuracy: Each line includes the amount, VAT rate, and VAT amount - based on data extracted by our OCR engine.
- Control: You decide whether to accept or reject the proposed split. You can also edit the split afterwards.
Who's it for?
This enhancement is available to users on the Plus and Unlimited plans who:
- Have access to the Transactions section
- Have OCR enabled via Integrations > Marketplace
- Have split transaction functionality
No activation required. If you’re using OCR, you'll automatically benefit from this enhancement.
How it works
- You upload a receipt to a transaction as usual.
- If the OCR engine detects multiple VAT rates with medium or high confidence, you’ll see a modal window suggesting a split.
- The modal shows each line with:
- Amount
- VAT rate
- VAT amount
- Confidence level icon:
- Green robot: High confidence
- Amber robot: Medium confidence
- Red robot: Low confidence
Note: If the OCR engine has low confidence for the entire
split, the modal is not triggered and we won't automatically suggest the
split.
- You can:
- Select Yes, split transaction to accept and apply the split.
- Select Cancel to ignore the suggestion and continue as normal.
- Select Yes, split transaction to accept and apply the split.
- If you accept, the transaction is split automatically. You can adjust the values later using Edit split transaction. You'll also be able to delete the split entirely from here.
Good to know
- If you already split the transaction manually, OCR won’t override it.
- If OCR detects a receipt with low confidence, it won’t suggest a split.
- If you’ve already added VAT values before uploading the receipt, the modal will show your previously entered entry and OCR’s proposal for comparison.
- If you delete the receipt after accepting a split, the split values stay—only the robot icon disappears.
- Attaching multiple documents in one go will not trigger the split. It's recommended to first attach the receipt that has the split so the automation can be triggered. If needed, more documents can be attached after the transaction has been split.
- This feature also works on fuel transactions.
