Roles and permissions overview

Soldo uses role-based permissions to control what each user can see and do in the web and mobile apps. This article gives you a clear overview of the default roles and what they’re designed for. It’s not a full permissions reference, but it will help you choose the right role for each user.

For each role category, you’ll find a table that shows what they can and can’t do across key areas, short description of who the role is for.

Admin roles help you manage your company’s money day to day in Soldo. The Super admin role has the highest level of access. It’s the only role that can create cards, make outbound bank payments (without bank transfer access), and manage roles and permissions.

Super admin

Full access to all features in the web app. 

This is the only role that can:

  • Create cards
  • Make outbound bank payments (without requiring bank transfer access)
  • Set roles and permissions

This role is usually assigned to a senior finance or operations lead.

Pricing plan(s): Standard, Plus, Unlimited

Admin

Access to most day-to-day features. Admins can manage spending, wallets, and users.

They can’t:

  • Create cards
  • Make outbound bank payments (without bank transfer access)
  • Set roles and permissions

Limited admin

Designed for users who need control over spending but not full account access. Limited admins can manage wallets, transfer funds, and control card rules.

They can’t:

  • Create users
  • Access company-wide reports
  • Change account settings

Leader

Designed to manage a defined group of employees. Leaders can oversee wallets, cards, and spending within their assigned group or scope. They can review team expenses, and run team-level reports. They do not have company-wide access and can't create users or cards.

Designed for finance team members managing accounting integrations and expense review. Has full access to integrations, reports, and expense workflows, but no access to wallets, cards, or user management.

Employee roles are for individual users managing their own card and expenses. They can't access company wallets, create users, or see other employees' transactions.

Employee

Standard employee with a Soldo card. Can manage their own card, submit expenses, upload receipts, request funds, and report on their own transactions.

Employee Limited access

A restricted employee without a Soldo card. Can submit out-of-pocket expenses, but has no card access and can't request funds.

Pricing plan(s): Unlimited

Employee Driver

Designed for fuel card users. Has card access and can log fuel transaction data, but cannot submit general expenses or request funds.
